Mountain Biking in the area

* drive time from Newtown

Difficulty level

m easy     -   mm challenging   -  mmm living on the edge

m Mercer County Park, NJ (*30min). Single track trail that goes all around the lake. Flat, not  too  technical, often muddy due to it's proximity to the water.

m Ralph Stover Park (*30min). Rocky, small area.

mm  Wissahickon (*35min). Exceptional area with a little bit of everything. Mostly short challanging climbs although a couple long rocky ones will challange the best. Everything is rideable for an experianced rider and walkable if not. The whole loop - leaving from Valley Green parking lot and going in a counter clockwise direction - will take 3-4 hours. How about 2 laps?

Washington Crossing NJ State Park (eastern side of the part away from the
river): Easy and well marked trails.  A good introduction to Mt Biking.
About 60% of the designated Mt Bike trails on the southeastern side of the
park are grass covered.  Be sure to ride through the pine forest which is
tranquill and refreshing.  The trails are wide and the hills are gradual.
These can be a bit challenging for beginners when the grass gets long and/or
wet. The northeastern corner is completely different with a great 1 mile loop of
single track, just beyond the group camping sites.  It includes a couple
stream crossings and a few logs that need to be traversed.  There can be a
few muddy spots after wet weather. review comming soon

mm French Creek State Park (*1hr,20min). 25 miles trails. Some rocky some not. a little bit of everything. Definitely worth the drive.

mm  Pennypack Park (*30min).

mm Neshaminy High School (*15min). Small area but has some challenging trails

m to mmm Jim Thorpe in Pa. (*1.5hr) A little bit of everything. Stop at Green Mountain Sports in town for trail book and trail information.

mmm Round Valley Reservoir(*50min)  very rocky, long climbs makes for a very challenging spot. The trail goes 3/4 of the way around the reservoir, once you reach the end you must come back the way you came. Extra points by climbing to the top of Tobagan hill on the way back to the parking lot!  Directions: Right on Allerton road {approx. 8 miles north of Flemington Circle on 31} to the end, right at stop sign onto Valley Crest Rd., next stop sign, make Left onto Stanton-Lebanon Rd., Park entrance to the right. bear right through main gate past park office, 1st right into Wilderness Camping Area parking lot to trail head.

mm Clayton State Park  A great easy to moderate ride... Lots of hills with some challenging climbs, stream crossings and log ramps. Rides fast as many downhills flow into the next up hill creating a roller coaster effect. 6 miles of trails. Take I-195 to exit 11 and follow Imlaystown-Hightstown Road to stop sign. Turn left onto Route 526 and immediately turn right onto Davis Station Road through Imlaystown bearing right at the Happy Apple Inn. Go past the lake and turn left on Emley's Hill Road. Parking is .3 miles on the left. Drive time 45-60 minutes.
